Blue Raiders Cruise Past UAB, Advance to Semifinals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Middle Tennessee men's tennis team showed why they are the top seed at the Conference USA Championship, Friday afternoon, sweeping UAB, 4-0.
MTSU jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead inmatch as Max Rauch and Francisco Rocha secured a 6-0 at third doubles before Tom Moonen and Chris Edge wrapped up a 6-4 win at second doubles.
In singles, the Raiders took the first set in all six matches. Chris Edge was once again the first one off the court with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court four.
Pavel Motl extended the Raider lead to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 5 before Rocha finished off the sweep on court one with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
In the unfinished matches, Stijn Slump won the first set, 6-2, before dropping the second set, 3-6. Moonen came back from down 0-4 to win the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (3). Rauch also won his first set, 6-1, but was in a battle in the second set with the score tied at five when it was called.
With the win, the Raiders improve to 15-7 overall this season and will play the five-seed Charlotte, tomorrow. Time is TBD with rain in the forecast.
