Raiders Ready to Defend Title, Beginning With UAB on Friday

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee men's tennis team begins its title defense, Friday, at the 2021 Conference USA Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Blue Raiders earned the top seed by way of being the highest-ranked team in Conference USA and will play the eight seed, UAB, Friday at 1 p.m.

The Raiders are 14-7 this season and are currently ranked 46th in the ITA rankings. They are coming off a 4-2 win at home over Georgia State last weekend.
Middle Tennessee is the defending champion having won in 2019 in Murfreesboro while the 2020 championships were cancelled.
The Raiders are a deep team as six players have seven or more wins this spring led by Stijn Slump with 14. Slump is also the reigning Outstanding Player of the Championship.
Francisco Rocha is ranked #49 in the country in singles and has a 12-5 record this spring, including wins over multiple ranked opponents. Back in the fall, he defeated Daniel Rodrigues of South Carolina who is currently ranked #2 in the nation.
Tom Moonen and Max Rauch will both be playing in their final Conference USA championships after racking up over 300 wins between the two of them over the last five seasons. Moonen has seven wins this spring while Rauch has picked up nine.
Chris Edge is the reigning Conference USA Player of the Year and has backed up that accomplishment with a 12-5 record so far this season.
Pavel Motl and Oskar Michalek add to the depth for the Raiders as they have tallied 13 wins this spring at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions.
In doubles, Motl and Slump are ranked #88 in the country and have eight wins this spring, including a victory over the 14th ranked duo from South Florida.
Moonen and Edge lead the Raiders with 12 wins this spring while Rocha and Rauch have added nine.
