KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – Inconsistency struck the Blue Raiders once again in the final round of the Irish Creek Intercollegiate, with an 18-hole score of 8-over par 292 seeing them drop two spots on the day to claim a share of seventh place in the 15-team field.
Middle Tennessee finished the 54-hole event alongside Davidson at 22-over par (293-289-292=874) and were within just 10 strokes of four more competitors in Kannapolis.
"The last three tournaments we have seen some highs and some lows, but I am still very encouraged by this team," Head Coach Mark McEntire exclaimed. "Kevin had another strong showing, but as a team we have got to improve our short games and get more disciplined."
True freshman Kevin Jegers was the low Raider on the week, earning a second consecutive Top 15 finish as he claimed a share of 13th place at 3-over par (69-72-75=216).
Senior Tanner Owens landed inside the Top 20 thanks to a team low round of 1-over par 72 on Saturday, and was 5-over par (73-73-72=218) for the tournament.
Cooper Sears closed the week out right alongside Owens in a 6-way tie for 20th place at 5-over par (76-70-72=218).
Owen Stamper turned in his lowest score of the tournament on Saturday to finish 9-over par (75-74-73=222), while Connor McKay turned in an 18-over par (81-74-76=231) 54-hole total.
"We had some success early in the spring and we've gotten a little too comfortable," McEntire added. "This team has plenty of talent, but we'll have to get after it back home if we want to compete for another conference title."
With the Blue Raider Classic already canceled, Middle Tennessee now eyes the Conference USA Championship next. The Blue Raiders will begin another title defense at Texarkana Country Club on April 26.
