Series Preview: Blue Raiders Kickoff Eight-Game Road Swing at UTSA

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Coming off a short home series against Conference USA foe, Rice, the Middle Tennessee baseball team will pack their bags and head back on the road to start an eight-game stent away from Murfreesboro and Reese Smith Jr. Field. The Blue Raiders will travel to UTSA for a four-game weekend series starting on Friday, April 9 at 6 p.m.

About the Blue Raiders
» Aaron Brown had yet another dazzling start for Middle Tennessee this week by tossing a complete game on Thursday afternoon in the Blue Raiders' series-opening win against Rice. The junior surrendered just one earned run and two hits against the Owls, marking the first time since Zac Curtis in 2014 that a Blue Raiders has thrown a complete game two-hitter. Thursday's outing was also the fifth time in his seven starts that Brown has surrendered one run or fewer to his opponent this season.
» Blue Raider second baseman JT Mabry continued to prove why he is one of the main cogs in the machine for Middle Tennessee this week as he led the Blue Raiders offensively against conference foe Rice. Over the span of the entire weekend, Mabry hit .438 against the Owls, reaching base a total of nine times and posting a .500 on base percentage. Mabry accounted for five runs during the four-game set and drove in a team-high four RBI this week, thanks in large part to the two home runs he hit in Friday's twin bill. Mabry's offensive efforts this week have helped him secure the team lead in home runs (4), RBIs (14), runs scored (17), doubles (6) and walks (16).
» After 12 innings on the diamond, the Blue Raiders tied with Rice on Saturday handing MT their first tie since 2018, also against Rice.

» The Roadrunners lead the all-time series against the Raiders, 13-6, dating back to May 2, 2014.
» The last time the Blue Raiders and UTSA played was March 17, 2019. MT won, 9-4, in Murfreesboro. David Zoz pitched 5.2 innings, allowed two runs, walked none, and struck out three on the way to his first win of 2019.

» UTSA has played a strong schedule thus far that includes five games against three power five opponents (TCU, LSU, and Baylor). All of the Roadrunners' wins are against teams from the state of Texas and have series wins against Sam Houston, UT Arlington, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and Rice this season.
» UTSA has four players hitting .290 or better in at least 15 games played this season. The Roadrunners hit .285 as a team which is good enough for second highest in C-USA behind just Old Dominion.
