MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A third junior college standout has landed in the 'Boro as part of Head Coach Nick McDevitt's 2021 signing class, with Justin Bufford signing on the dotted line Monday to join the Blue Raiders.
Bufford comes to Middle Tennessee from Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Ala., where he led the Bucs in scoring (12.5) as a true freshman while the team enjoyed an impressive 24-2 campaign and an appearance in the 2021 NJCAA National Tournament.
A 6-foot-7 wing, Bufford was also second on the team in rebounding (6.1) and blocks (22) while adding 28 steals and 21 assists in 26 games.
"Justin has great positional size and his combination of length and athleticism allow him to make plays on both ends of the floor," McDevitt said. "He's a very good rebounder and has the ability to score in multiple ways. We're excited about his future as a Blue Raider!"
A talented scorer at all levels, Bufford was second on the team in both field goal percentage (.511) and 3-point field goal percentage (.386) while converting on 76 of a team-high 108 free throw attempts (.704).
The Montgomery, Ala., native - who earned All-State honors while leading Montgomery Catholic to the Final Four of the Class 4A State Championship - will have four years of eligibility in Murfreesboro.
He joins fellow junior college products Isaiah Turner and Camryn Weston, graduate transfer Josh Jefferson and prep standout Teafale Lenard in the current signing class.
