C-USA hoops schedule has more familiar look for 2021-22

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Conference USA women's basketball schedule will have a more familiar look in 2021-22.
After a season in which teams played games against conference foes on consecutive nights and did not play every conference team due to the COVID-19 global pandemic, there will be a return to normalcy for the upcoming season.
The 2021-22 C-USA schedule, released by the conference office Thursday, features an 18-game league slate with teams returning to playing two different foes on a weekend swing. The only change in the schedule from previous seasons is a new divisional format. Teams will play opponents from within their division twice and they will play six of the seven foes in the opposite division once each.
"I'm excited about the league format and returning to something that's more traditional," Lady Raider Head Coach Rick Insell said. "We did what we had to do to have a season last year, but that was tough on everyone involved. Playing back-to-back days against the same opponent certainly created challenges, but we made it through. I'm looking forward to the new format with divisional play (in 2021-22)."
The Lady Raiders open defense of their C-USA championship at UTSA (Dec. 30), before bringing in the New Year at UTEP (Jan. 1). Middle Tennessee did not face UTSA last season but matched up against UTEP in the semifinals of the C-USA Championship.
Middle Tennessee's conference home opener is a rematch of the C-USA championship game as the Lady Raider host Rice (Jan. 6), before facing North Texas (Jan. 8).
Following back-to-back home games, Middle Tennessee has its longest road trip of the conference season with games at Florida Atlantic (Jan. 13), at FIU (Jan. 15) and at Southern Miss (Jan. 22).
That stretch is followed by the longest conference homestand as the Lady Raiders play host to Marshall (Jan. 27), rival WKU (Jan. 29) and UAB (Feb. 5).
The Lady Raiders will play four of six conference games on the road before closing out the season with two home games before heading to the C-USA Championships.
They will play at Old Dominion (Feb. 10) and at Charlotte (Feb. 13), before returning home to face FIU (Feb. 17) and Florida Atlantic (Feb. 19). The final two road games send Middle Tennessee to Marshall (Feb. 24) and WKU (Feb. 26), before closing out the season at home against Charlotte (March 2) and Old Dominion (March 5).
