MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Soccer senior forward Peyton DePriest netted a PK in the 19th-minute to tie the C-USA all-time record for career goals scored as the Blue Raiders battled the Samford Bulldogs to a 1-1 draw on Saturday evening to close out the team's opening weekend.
"Peyton is a special player, and it was a special moment for her to tie the C-USA record today," expressed head coach Aston Rhoden. "We are just really glad she's on our team and for all that she brings with her leadership, maturity, and the on-field value each and every day."
Peyton DePriest had a career night as she tied the C-USA all-time record in career goals scored with her 47th goal wearing the Blue and White. DePriest powered into the box to draw a foul from the Bulldog's Lindsay Origliasso to set up a Blue Raider penalty kick. DePriest faked out Samford's Morgan McAslan to jump right and netted the left-footed PK behind the keeper in the 19th minute to give the Blue Raiders the early 1-0 lead.
"Every time you get a lead at home, it's a momentum changer for us," Rhoden said. "That goal settled us down a little bit and got Samford to where they are chasing the game. It allowed us to be more patient and play our game."
"It was a long-time coming to play well against Samford and we really needed to play our best heading into our contest against Ole Miss, so just doing whatever I could for the team was my primary focus today."
The Blue Raiders held onto their lead through halftime. However, the Samford Bulldog's eventually responded to MT's first half goal as Taylor Yount slid a pass from the top of the 18-yard box to Zoe Perrin, who would make a sliding shot near the six-yard box into the high right side of the net and bring the match even in the 77th minute.
The Blue Raiders committed four more shots over the final 13 minutes of the contest before the game would remain locked at one all and head into overtime.
Middle Tennessee outshot the Bulldogs over the two overtime periods, but nothing would go in as the horn eventually sounded to close out the 1-1 draw.
