MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Soccer faces a tough road test this weekend as the Blue Raiders head up to Bowling Green, Kentucky to take on the C-USA East-leading Western Kentucky Hilltoppers for a 6 p.m. matchup on Sunday, Sept. 19.
National Attention
Senior Peyton DePriest continues to collect the awards, most recently being named to the Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week for Sept. 14 after scoring a brace while leading the Blue Raiders to an impressive 2-1 upset victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores on last Sunday.
DePriest is currently the NCAA D-I active career leader in goals scored at the D-I level with 54 goals over her five-year career, followed by Santa Clara's Kelsey Turnbow with 48 goals.
Scouting the Blue Raiders
The Blue Raiders enter Sunday's contest with a 5-3-1 record and 1-0 in conference play.
Offensively, the Blue Raiders are led by DePriest who has scored eight goals, as well as dishing out three assists for 19 points over MT's nine games this season.
Junior Hannah Suder has played eight games in net for the Blue Raiders, collecting a single season-high 39 saves and a 1.42 goals against average through nine games.
Scouting the Hilltoppers
The C-USA East-leading Hilltoppers enter Sunday's contest with a 6-1 record, with the team's only loss coming in a 1-0 loss against the Ole Miss Rebels.
The Hilltoppers' Katie Erwin is tied for a team-leading two goals this season, in addition to dishing out a team-leading four assists for eight points through seven games this season. WKU's Brina Micheels, Avery Jacobsen, and Mackenzie Crittenberger have also each scored a pair of goals for the Hilltoppers this season.
Alexis Bach leads the Hilltoppers in net this season, playing all but one contests for WKU and collecting 22 saves and producing a 0.66 goals against average.
Last Time Out
The Blue Raiders earned a double-overtime victory against the FIU Panthers on Thursday.
The Panthers opened up the contest with a goal in the 15th minute to take the early lead when Jessica Magerman connected on a header to put FIU on top first.
The Blue Raiders responded in the 40th minute as freshman Kirstine Lykke delivered a dime to DePriest, who powered the ball over the top of the FIU keeper into the top-left of the net to bring the game even at one-all heading into the locker room.
The duo of DePriest and Lykke were able to connect on the Blue Raiders second goal of the contest as DePriest sent the ball into the box for Lykke, who threaded the shot through the FIU defense and the left side of the FIU keeper to give the Blue Raiders the 2-1 advantage in the 68th minute.
FIU evened up the game once again in the 79th minute on an unassisted score from FIU's Noemi Paquin to send the game into extra minutes.
With a little over two minutes remaining in the contest, the Blue Raiders earned a free kick halfway into FIU territory. Sophomore Alex Goffi took the free kick in the 108th minute following a FIU yellow card, which she put on goal and powered past the wall of Panthers and Blue Raiders, as well as past the left side of the FIU keeper to sink the game-winner and call game on the 3-2 Blue Raider victory.
Series History
Sunday's contest marks the 21st all-time contest between the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and the Blue Raiders. WKU leads the all-time series 8-6-6 over Middle Tennessee. In Bowling Green, the Blue Raiders hold a 0-5-4 record against the Hilltoppers. In their last meeting, Middle Tennessee fell 1-3 to the Hilltoppers at home during the team's 2020-21 season opener.
