Four Blue Raiders finish in top 20 at JT Poston Invitational, Team second

Sapphire, N.C. – Middle Tennessee men's golf came as close as one stroke off the lead in Tuesday's third and final round at Western Carolina's JT Poston Invitational, but the Blue Raiders settled for second place at 835 (-17), two strokes behind South Carolina. Michael Barnard, Mattias Varjun, Nick Wolf and Kevin Jegers all finished within the top 20 individually.
Barnard led the way with a 14th-place finish, carding a 68 (-3) Tuesday for his third par-or-better round of the tournament. He ended the event at 209 (-4). Varjun tied for 15th at 210 (-3) after carding a 70 (-1) on Tuesday. Wolf and Jegers tied for 18th at 211 (-2). Jegers shot a 71 (E) on Tuesday, as Wolf carded a 73 (+2). Owen Stamper rounded out the lineup at 218 (+5) after recording a round of 78 (+7) Tuesday.
Playing as individuals, Gavin Clements tied for 46th, and Connor Daly tied for 60t. Clements carded a 78 (+7) Tuesday to end the event at 218 (+5). Daly's score of 75 (+4) gave him a 54-hole mark of 221 (+8).
Middle Tennessee led the field with three eagles and finished tied for fourth with 53 birdies. Its average of 3.96 on par-4 holes was the second-lowest, just behind the Gamecocks at 3.95.
The second-place finish was the Blue Raiders' best of the fall.

"It was a good week for us," head coach Mark McEntire said. "I am proud that we fought hard today and had a chance down the stretch. It was a great bounce back after last week. We've got a quick turnaround this week, and we hope we can continue the good play."
