Middle Tennessee Continues Play at Home

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Coming off two wins at home on Monday, Middle Tennessee men's tennis (2-0, 1-0 C-USA) aims to defend their unbeaten home victory streak with matches against North Alabama (0-2) and Butler (0-1) on Friday, Jan. 21 at Noon and 5:00 p.m. inside the Adams Tennis Complex.
MT completed a 7-0 sweep over Conference USA opponent Southern Miss to kick off the 2022 Spring slate of matches. Later that day, the Blue Raiders bested Tennessee State 7-0 for the 700th win in program history and extended the nation's longest active home win streak to 31 straight home wins.
Graduate student Chris Edge was electric in the double-header, the Great Britain native went 4-0 overall on the day. Senior and the No. 82 player in the nation Francisco Rocha also went 2-0 on the Blue Raider top two singles courts. No. 30 Stijn Slump finished the day 3-0 overall. Slump went 2-0 on the doubles courts, and only competed in singles against USM winning his match in two sets 6-2, 6-2. No. 106 Graudate Student Stepan Holis made his official MT debut, defeating his USM opponent in two sets 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. Holis teamed up with Edge the doubles court No. 3 and imposed their will on opponents, outscoring them 12-3 in two matches.
Freshman John Chin, Oskar Brostrom Poulsen, Mattia Bernardi, and Lucas Olivier all made their Blue Raider debuts in the wins. Collectively, they finished the double-header with a 6-0 record on the singles courts and 2-1 on the doubles front.
Head Coach Jimmy Borendame is set to square off with his alma mater in the latter half of Friday's doubleheader. Borendame is a 2002 graduate of Butler University where he earned a bachelor's degree with honors in finance and was a member of the Bulldogs tennis program for four years. In those four years, Borendame set the school record for doubles victories (98) and was ranked as high as No. 33 on the doubles courts. He was a four-time All-Horizon League selection and served as the co-captain during his senior year where he earned ITA All-America Academic Honors.
