Recruiting Class of 2022 First Look: Kyle Lowe

The early enrollee with look to make an impact in the Blue Raider QB room
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Kyle Lowe, like a lot of senior quarterbacks around the country, could not wait for his senior season at Fayette Ware High School to get started this past fall. And when the end of August rolled around and he took the field at Chester County, the 5-foot-11 QB was ready, as most quarterbacks are, with a set of plays in his wristband to lead his team on the field.
When he took the field for the first drive, however, there was one problem: his card of plays didn't match up to his coach's set of plays.
And when your coach is also your dad, that can make an awkward situation even more so.
"I just remember him going off on me for my first drive because I screwed it up," Kyle Lowe recalled fondly, in large part because of what came after. "After that, I just turned it on. Five touchdowns, the craziest run of my career, 87-yards. I think that was probably the best moment of my career so far."
Watching that 87-yard run back, where Lowe breaks a tackle, stutter steps the next two defenders to the ground, and then sprints past the final two players on his way for a good 60 yards before the end zone, it's easy to see why the signal caller was one of the earliest offers Middle Tennessee had this recruiting cycle, and why both Rick and Brent Stockstill, two of his primary recruiters, have a lot of confidence Lowe can be an impact player with the ball in his hands as a Blue Raider.
For his father and coach, Woodrow Lowe, the physical traits that are evident on Kyle's tape — a rocket arm and fast legs — only serve to make the mental side of his game all the more devastating for opposing defenses.
"He was able to get us in the right play, make the checks, all the right stuff," the elder Lowe said, noting how Kyle basically taught the offense on his own when his dad took the job at Fayette Ware just a few weeks before the 2020 season started.
Kyle's older brother, Trey, is an FBS quarterback as well, signing with West Virginia out of high school before transferring to Southern Miss. That family pedigree, throwing the ball back and forth with his big brother in the backyard, Woodrow Lowe thinks, is what led Kyle to be a quarterback, despite having the build some folks would think of as more typical of a defensive back or running back.
Kyle hears that critique all the time, it's hard not to when you've garnered as much attention as he did as a three-star prospect. But the early enrollee says that all it takes is one look at the league, particularly at players like Kyler Murray, his favorite athlete, to see how guys like him are the future.
"People think just because you're undersized that you can't throw the ball a certain distance or you can't throw it very hard," Kyle said. "But if you look at guys in the league right now that are undersized and they can throw the ball just fine. I think it's just a chip on my shoulder, honestly."

Fun Fact: Kyle was into solving Rubik's Cubes when he was younger, at one point being able to solve a scrambled cube in under a minute.
