Blue Raiders complete day one of the ITA Regional Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee women's tennis opened play at the ITA Regional Championships in Knoxville, Tenn on Wednesday.
MTSU started the day off with a doubles win.
Sana Garakani and Noelle Mauro took down Tennessee State's Warona Mdlulwa and Franka Sindici 8-2 to give the Blue Raiders their first win of the day. The duo advanced to the next round of doubles in the qualifying draw on Thursday. A win Thursday morning will place Garakani and Mauro into the main draw of doubles.
In the first round of singles, Love-Star Alexis defeated Anja Trbeznik (Lipscomb) 6-3, 6-2, tallying the first singles win for MTSU. Garakani picked up the second singles win with a victory 6-1, 6-2 over Northern Kentucky's Ananya Kothakota. Muskan Gupta and Mauro fell in their respective singles matches.
Alexis and Garakani both came up short in their second round of singles on Wednesday. They will continue play in the back draw on Thursday.

"Today wasn't a great day for us. We earned a few wins but struggled against some solid players that could help us get over a mental jump. We have more matches tomorrow which I plan on going a little better."
