MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee tennis hosted its annual kids clinic Tuesday with Murfreesboro City Schools.
More than 85 children, ranging from kindergarten through fourth grade, participated alongside their parents in the audience.
The young athletes received instruction from members of the Blue Raider men's tennis team, including Eric Crivei, Birtan Duran, Houston Jacques, Karim Al-Amin, Ondrej Horak, Jonasz Mateusz Dziopak, Freddy Murray, Richard LaLance and Antoine Mayoral.
Representing the women's team were Eda Numanoglu, Zora Koenig, Zenn Lim, Lena Peyer, Sadbaroy Kholdarova and Cara Szilasi.
The clinic featured a variety of skill-based activities, such as racket dribbling for hand-eye coordination, groundstroke drills with cross-court rallies and serve-and-volley exercises.
To wrap up the day, MTSU hosted an exhibition doubles match between the men's duo of LaLance and Jacques and the women's pair of Peyer and Koenig.
Head coach Jimmy Borendame on the event is a meaningful tradition for the program:
This community clinic is key for our program to help grow the game of tennis and give back to the community that supports us so well at our home events, Borendame said. It's awesome to see the smiles and enjoyment on their faces.
