MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After handling business this past weekend, the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders moved to 4-0 this fall with a 27-0 win over the Bevill State Community College Bears on Wednesday evening at Blue Raider Softball Field. Dating back to Sunday's 37-1 one-sided triumph against Jackson State Community College, MTSU has outscored its opponents 64-1 across its past two matchups, and 78-10 over the fall campaign.
Keri Munn, Claire Woods, Gretchen Mead, Paige Connors and Kamryn Carcich each tossed a pair of scoreless frames for the Raiders.
Breeden's Briefing
"I thought we played well tonight all the way around," said MTSU head coach Jeff Breeden. "We played good defense. Julia Sitterding played at shortstop all ten innings tonight. I thought she did a really good job for us. I thought our left-handed hitters did a good job for us. Riley Gilmore has been getting on base like crazy. We executed our offense, we scored in the short phase of the game, we scored hitting doubles and driving people in and we stole a lot of bases. I thought our pitchers pitched well. So just an overall good night for us."
The Raiders struck first blood on an E1 off the bat of Shelby Echols. RBI singles from Julia Garcia and Amaya Harris made it 3-0 after one inning. Savannah Behabetz, Shelby Sargent and Echols would drive in runs an inning later, stretching the early lead to 8-0.
Anyce Harvey added another run in the third on a squeeze bunt, before Sitterding reached on an E4 that scored another tally. Ansley Blevins kick started the fourth inning with an RBI single, a frame that featured another trio of Blue Raider runs to make it 13-0. Blevins would also hit a two-run home run in the fifth as the Blue Raiders further padded their margin to 15-0; a Harvey RBI groundout made it 16-0 after five innings.
Amaya Harris, Carcich, Ashlee Jacoway, Lexi Medlock, and Abby Shoulders all joined the RBI parade in the seventh inning to make it 23-0.
