MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Middle Tennessee volleyball team took on UTSA for their fourth match of the Conference USA season on Friday. The Blue Raiders led the serve-receive battle which is usually an indicator of who will win the match, but the Roadrunners block showed up to offset the service aces allowed.
The Blue Raiders (12-6, 1-3 C-USA) dropped a four-set battle to the UTSA Roadrunners (7-9, 2-2 C-USA), with set scores of 23-25, 25-14, 12-25, and 23-25. The Blue Raiders out served the Roadrunners, knocking home eight aces on the night. For one of the first times this season, the Blue Raiders were not able to get their block running only tallying three through the four sets.
Freshman Adri Rhoda led the Blue Raiders with 13.0 points on the night with nine kills and four service aces. Rhoda's awesome night from the service line led to her tying the current-rally scoring era single-season record for service aces at 44, needing just one more to break Dora Peonia's record. Senior Marley Banton racked up 20 digs for a 5.0 digs per set average to go along with seven assists. Banton also set the 25-point era career record for service aces tonight with 107 and counting.
