Chaphalkar, Garakani tally a doubles win in final day of the June Stewart Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee women's tennis finished play at the June Stewart Invitational on Sunday.

Four of the freshmen were in action for the Blue Raiders. On Sunday, it was all about growth for the freshmen, which ended up with a doubles win.

MTSU faced Purdue and Missouri in two doubles matches, tallying a win over the Boilermakers.

Rutuja Chaphalkar and Sana Garakani picked up a win over Purdue's Juana Larranaga and Ashlie Wilson 6-2. Cara Szilasi and Karen Yibirin fell in their doubles match against the Tigers.

In the first session of singles, the Blue Raiders played three matches with Purdue taking the win in the three matches.

In the second session of singles, Chaphalkar was the only Blue Raider to play in the second singles session. The freshman from India fell in her singles match against Missouri.

"This weekend was about growth. We got a doubles win, which was good for the freshman, who really focused on their strength. In singles, there was a noticeable growth with mental attitude, which is high on our list. I am looking forward to hitting the practice courts this last week before regionals."
