Blue Raiders make moves on second day of Loyola Intercollegiate

MT leads by three strokes, Jegers by one in individual field.
GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Middle Tennessee took control Monday in the second round of the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley Golf Club. The Blue Raiders finished the day with a three-stroke lead after starting play in second place, and Kevin Jegers went from a tie for first to taking sole possession of the individual lead by the end of the round.
Middle Tennessee sits at 558 (-18) through two rounds after carding a field-leading 281 (-7) Monday. The Blue Raiders lead Utah Valley by three strokes entering Tuesday's third round.
"We made a nice move today," head coach Mark McEntire said. "Great rounds today from Kevin and Mike. I'm excited they put themselves in position to make a run for the individual title. We need another solid round tomorrow from the team. I'm glad we're getting into position."
Jegers carded a 69 (-3) on Monday, one stroke off the lowest individual round on the day, to take a one-stroke lead heading into the final round. The Tallinn, Estonia, native recorded five birdies and 12 pars in the second round and sits at 135 (-9).
Michael Barnard moved up five spots from a tie for ninth to sole possession of fourth place Monday. The Hendersonville, Tennessee, native carded a 69 (-3) for the second straight round and takes a two-round score of 138 (-6) into Tuesday's action.
Owen Stamper posted his second under-par score in as many days Monday with a 71 (-1). He ended the day tied for 11th overall at 141 (-3). After picking up five birdies Monday, he is fourth overall with 11 for the tournament.
Nick Wolf stayed steady at 72 (E) Monday to finish the round tied for 27th at 144 (E). The Murfreesboro native carded one birdie and one bogey while parring the 16 remaining holes.
Jack Heath moved up 13 spots Monday, shaving three strokes off his first-round score to end in a tie for 79th at 151 (+7).
Playing as an individual, Gavin Clements carded a 74 (+2) and is currently tied for 27th at 144 (E). His 12 birdies are tied for the second-most in the field.
Also playing as individuals, Connor Daly wrapped up play tied for 42nd at 146 (+2), and Mattias Varjun returned to clubhouse in a tied for 93rd at 154 (+10).
Tuesday's third round begins with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. CT.
