Blue Raiders Take Down UT Martin and Alabama A&M

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee women's tennis put on a display Saturday inside the Adams Tennis Complex, defeating in-state foe UT Martin (1-6) 6-1 and Alabama A&M (0-2) 7-0 in a double-header.

With the wins on Saturday, the Blue Raiders move to 5-5 (.500) on the season. "We had a solid performance this weekend, finishing strong with a double-header. We have been focusing on managing mistakes and staying focused longer, and we were able to see improvements in those areas this weekend." Head Coach Tayo-Bailey Duvall said, "Overall, I am happy with how the girls performed, showing growth in key areas."

MT won the doubles point in both matches, against UTM the Blue Raiders performed two 6-3 finishers on court Nos. 1 and 2. In the dual match against Alabama A&M, all three courts finished and didn't allow their Bulldog adversary to gain more than two points.

In singles against the Skyhawks, Lee Barnard, Muskan Gupta, Love-Star Alexis, Noelle Mauro, and Eloise Swarbrick all exhibited two set triumphs. Senior Zani Barnard fell on court No. 4 in three-sets 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (9-11) to give UTM their only point on the afternoon.

Against the Bulldogs in singles, Head Coach Duvall inserted Sophomore Lilly-Sophie Schmidt into the sixth court in place of Swarbrick and from the first serve, Middle Tennessee was in control.

All six Blue Raiders won in two sets over A&M for the second sweep in two days over opponents.

Next up
Middle Tennessee has one week off competition before traveling to Texas to take on Conference USA opponents UTSA and North Texas in Denton, Texas. "As we look onwards to next weekend's matches, we need to take our improvements and apply them towards two solid conference teams. The matches will be challenging but winnable. We will continue to practice and keep improving this week so that next weekend we can earn two quality wins." Duvall said.
