Blue Raiders in a tie for eighth, two players in the top 20
WEST POINT, Miss. – Darkness brought a stop to the second round Mossy Oak Collegiate Championship at Mossy Oak Golf Club with most teams having played 13-17 holes Monday. Middle Tennessee ended the abbreviated first day of the tournament tied with Chattanooga for eighth place at 4-over.
Nick Wolf leads the Blue Raiders at 1-under through 14 holes in the second round and sits in a tie for 13th overall. He started the day with a 68 (-4) on the strength of six birdies, including five in a stretch of six holes.
"Great opening for Nick," head coach Mark McEntire said. "The conditions were very difficult today, and I'm glad to see some solid numbers. We have three holes to finish and hope to make a couple birdies and then get after it in the final round."
Owen Stamper is tied for 20th at even par, carding a 72 (E) in the first round before notching four birdies and four bogeys in 15 second-round holes.
Connor Daly bounced back from an opening-round 76 (+4) to shoot even par through his first 15 holes of the second round. He ends the day in a tie for 56th.
Kevin Jegers' mark of 1-under was MT's best of the shortened second round Monday. He rebounded from a 79 in the first round to pick up four birdies in the second. He heads into Tuesday in a tie for 69th.
Michael Barnard recorded a 74 (+2) in the first round before going 6-over in the second. He rounds out the Blue Raider lineup in a tie for 82nd.
Dealing with rain and cloudy conditions, the Blue Raiders combined for 36 birdies Monday, tied for the most in the field. Wolf and Jegers are tied for sixth individually with nine birdies apiece.
Host Mississippi State leads the tournament at 16-under. Wolf sits eight strokes behind leader Gordon Sargent of Vanderbilt.
The second round will be completed before Tuesday's scheduled third round.
