WEST POINT, Miss. – Middle Tennessee concluded its regular season with a tie for seventh place out of 19 teams at the Mossy Oak Collegiate Championship at Mossy Oak Golf Club. The Blue Raiders finished the three-round event at 870 (+6), playing the final round plus the final few holes of the second round Tuesday after darkness put a premature stop to play Monday evening. Nick Wolf tied for 12th at 214 (-2).
"It was a solid week," head coach Mark McEntire said. "I am not sure we will make the jump to get inside the number for an at-large bid, so all attention goes to the conference tournament. Congrats to Nick on a solid tournament, and I'm really proud of Connor for fighting back today after a tough start. This team is very close."
Wolf was one of four MT players to card a 73 (+1) on Tuesday, birdieing two holes to finish with 13 birdies in the two-day event.
Owen Stamper finished in a tie for 31st at 217 (+1), wrapping up the round at 73 (+1) to follow up a pair of even-par rounds to start the event.
Connor Daly birdied four holes and had just three holes over par in the third round, finishing with a 73 (+1) to tie for 54th at 221 (+5).
Kevin Jegers led the Blue Raiders with five birdies on the day, but his score did not count toward the team's third-round total. He finished the round at 74 (+2) and tied for 69th individually at 224 (+8).
Michael Barnard birdied two holes and picked up an eagle – MT's only one of the tournament – on hole 3. He carded a 73 (+1) in the third round and finished the tournament in 77th place at 226 (+10).
The Blue Raiders recorded the fifth-most birdies in the tournament at 55. Their 13-under performance on par 5 holes was second only to tournament champion No. 3 Vanderbilt.
MT finished ahead of the three Conference USA opponents in the tournament: UAB (9th), LA Tech (t-10th) and Southern Miss (17th). All six teams to finish ahead of the Blue Raiders entered the tournament inside the top 70 in the latest Golfstat rankings.
The Commodores took the team title by 12 strokes after holding a two-stroke lead entering the third round. Wolf finished 10 strokes behind individual champion Gordon Sargent of Vanderbilt.
The Blue Raiders turn their attention to the Conference USA Championship, which will be held April 25-28 at Texarkana Country Club in Texarkana, Texas. Middle Tennessee will be playing for its fourth straight conference title.
