No. 17 Blue Raiders Fall to No. 49 Tulsa Friday Afternoon

WICHITA, Kan. – No. 17 Middle Tennessee men's tennis (23-4, 2-0) falls to No. 49 Tulsa (13-9, 1-3) by a score of 4-2 at the Coleman Tennis Complex for its first loss since February 6.
With the defeat, the Blue Raiders have their 17-match win streak snapped, tying the longest consecutive wins streak in program history set by the 1979 squad.
The Blue Raiders came out the gate hot, claiming the doubles portion over the Golden Hurricane with wins on court Nos. 2 and 3. Seniors Pavel Motl and Stijn picked up the opening point on two, winning 6-2. Graduate Students Chris Edge and Stepan Holis clinched the doubles point at 7-6, as a pair they move to 19-6 on the season.
In singles play, Tulsa claimed four of six first sets over Middle Tennessee and quickly shifted momentum in the dual match.
No. 67 Slump was the first Blue Raider to fall, dropping his match in straight sets to No. 87 Kody Pearson at 6-1, 6-2.
Edge dropped his match in a three-set contest to Ezequiel Santalla at 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. He moves to 18-7 on the season after today's match.
No. 124 Stepan Holis fell to Connor Di Marco in straight sets at 6-4, 6-3 to give the Golden Hurricane a 3-1 lead with three courts to go.
Senior No. 80 Francisco Rocha would give MT their first point in singles competition with a two-set win over Stefan Hampe at 6-4, 7-5.
Tulsa clinched the match taking down Freshman Oskar Brostrom Poulsen on court No.5 in a three-set thriller.

The No. 17 Blue Raiders will have an opportunity to avenge their loss today, as the team will take on Wichita State in a true-road match on Saturday, April 16 at 1 p.m. at the Coleman Tennis Complex.
