RUSTON, La. – Middle Tennessee baseball handed Louisiana Tech its first conference home loss of the season Friday night in its 7-3 defeat of the Bulldogs at J.C. Love Field At Pat Patterson Park.
The Blue Raiders (20-16, 10-6 C-USA) recorded 11 of their 12 hits in the first five innings and Zach Keenan threw his second complete game of the season in MT's 20th win of 2022.
From the start, it was Fausto Lopez reaching on a leadoff walk and three straight singles from Jackson Galloway, Briggs Rutter and Mason Speirs to put the Blue Raiders up 2-0 in the first.
The Bulldogs (27-12, 11-5 C-USA) tied the game at two temporarily in the third until the Blue Raiders stole back the lead on three straight hits which plated three runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Loading the bases on two walks and a single in the top of the eighth, the Blue Raiders added two more insurance runs on a La Tech throwing error to make it 7-3 Middle Tennessee.
As the 'Dogs threatened with a leadoff single in the bottom of the eighth, JT Mabry made the defensive play of the game by leaping up and spearing a sharp line drive, then throwing to first to catch the runner at first for the double play.
Keenan struck out the next batter as the Blue Raiders inched closer to a Friday win.
Going for his second complete game of the season, Keenan came out for the ninth and set down La Tech in order to seal the win.
The senior right-hander, who set down 17 of his last 20 batters, settled in after allowing a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.
