MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – After a two-week break away from competition, No. 18 Middle Tennessee men's tennis will host a ranked in-state foe #37 Memphis (12-5) squad and Alabama A&M (2-12) on Friday, April 8 at 1:00 and 4:30 p.m. inside the Adams Tennis Complex.
Friday is a special day for MT men's tennis as we honor Graduate Students Chris Edge and Stepan Holis. Our Senior Day festivities will be in-between the two matches at 4:20 p.m. CT, will be be honoring those two student-athletes for all they have given to Middle Tennessee State University and the men's tennis program.
Edge is a fifth year from Carlisle, Great Britain who will leave MT with two degrees, finishing up a Master's in Exercise Science at the end of May. During his time with the Blue Raiders, Edge has accumulated over 100 wins in doubles and singles competition, he is the second player in program history to accomplish this feat. Chris earned the 2020 Conference USA Co-Player of the Year, 2021 Outstanding Doubles Team of the C-USA Championship paired with Tom Moonen, is a seven-time All-C-USA selection, three-time C-USA Commissioners Honor Roll member, and will depart MT among the top-10 in every records category.
Holis, a Graduate Transfer from New Mexico, has been an important member of the 2021-2022 Blue Raider squad. Stepan has a 16-3 record in doubles play paired with Edge and a 13-7 record in singles, winning 10 of his last 12 matches. Holis had one of the best individual performances of the season in the prestigious Blue Gray Championship, where he clinched all three matches over ranked opponents to send the Blue Raiders back to Murfreesboro with their first ever Blue Gray title. Stepan spent his past four seasons with UNM, where he collected 81 overall wins and led his team in that category in consecutive seasons. The Zasova, Czech Republic native was a multiple All-Mountain West selection, 2019 MW Regular-Season Champions, and won the 2021 MW Championship during his time with the Lobos.
Needless to say, these two individuals have been crucial to the Blue Raider tennis program, MTSU, and will leave a lasting legacy for future squads. Together, Edge and Holis have racked up over 316 collegiate wins and have earned three conference championships for their respected schools.
The Blue Raiders will play host to #37 Memphis on Friday in one of the most-anticipated matchups of the season. Middle Tennessee enters the match on a 15-match win streak and are seeking their eighth ranked victory in the Spring. The Tigers, led by Paul Goebel, was a four-time OVC All-American for the Blue Raiders (1991-94), ranked as high as No. 5 nationally in doubles, and was one of the first two Blue Raiders to earn ITA All-American honors in 1994.
