Blue Raiders Fall to WKU in a Close Contest Saturday Afternoon

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Middle Tennessee women's tennis falls to 9-13, 1-5 on the season after dropping a close 4-3 decision on the road against Western Kentucky on Friday afternoon at the WKU Tennis Complex.
The Hilltoppers claimed the doubles portion on courts Nos. 1 and 3 to give WKU the advantage heading into singles. Zani Barnard and Love-Star Alexis picked up an individual victory on court No. 2 at 7-5.
All six singles courts were decided in straight-set fashion, three Blue Raiders left the match with individual wins.
Z. Barnard went 2-0 individually on the day with a singles win over Rachel Hermanova, taking her flight at 6-4, 6-2.
Sophomore Lilly-Sophie Schmidt picked up a singles win on court No. 6 at 6-2, 6-1, Schmidt takes the team lead in singles wins on the season with the performance over WKU.
Junior Muskan Gupta won on court No. 2 over Laura Bernardos in two 6-4 sets giving the Blue Raiders our third and final point in the match.
Next Up
Middle Tennessee will return to Murfreesboro to prepare for UAB next Saturday, April 16 at 11:00 a.m. CT at the Adams Tennis Complex. Our matchup with the Blazers will be our Senior Day contest where we will honor Lee and Zani Barnard for their contributions to MTSU and the women's tennis program. Times for Senior Day festivities will be announced later in the week.
2022 Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship
The Blue Raiders are set to host the 2022 C-USA Championship at the ATC on April 21-24. Admission is free to the public for the duration of the tournament, more information will be released in the coming days related to the tournament. Middle Tennessee is still looking for local volunteers for the championship, fans interested in volunteering should contact Head Coach Tayo Bailey-Duvall at tayo.bailey-duvall@mtsu.edu for more information.
