NORMAN, Okla. – Murfreesboro native Nick Wolf finished his collegiate career with a 74 (+2) in the third round of the NCAA Norman Regional at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. The No. 139-ranked individual in the country finished the tournament at 224 (+8) to tie for 50th individually. Michael Barnard closed his season with a 75 (+3) after birdieing his final hole of the season. The Hendersonville, Tenn., native tied for 52nd individually at 225 (+9). The Conference USA individual champion entered the tournament ranked No. 119 in nation by Golfstat.
"It was a tough week, but I'm proud of the year we had," head coach Mark McEntire said. "It is always great to have your logo in the postseason. We have a young team and will be returning some very good players. We will miss Nick Wolf. He was a leader, an excellent player and a good friend to everyone. I am glad he will still be in Murfreesboro as he starts his professional career. He will be a tremendous advocate for our program. Mike had a solid year as well. I'm glad he was able to get a win under his belt at the Conference USA Tournament. This will be the first of many. He made some great strides this year, and if he continues to improve on this pace the next two years, Mike will be in all of our record books."
On a sunny day with temperatures reaching the upper 80s by the end of the round, Wolf started strong with a birdie on his first hole. A second birdie on 15 helped him finish the day strong.
Barnard parred 13 of 18 holes Wednesday, finishing with four bogeys. His 36 pars in the tournament were tied for eighth-most by any player in the 77-man field.
Barnard finishes the season with a scoring average of 71.83, just .19 strokes above even par for the year. Wolf wraps up '21-22 .30 strokes above par at 71.94. Those marks are the fifth- and sixth-best season stroke averages relative to par in program history, respectively.
The two Blue Raiders were two of just 21 players in the regional to record an eagle.
Barnard ends 2021-22 with 17 rounds of par or better, tied for the seventh-most in a season in program history. Wolf's 15 rounds of par or better are tied for 16th-most in program history.
The teams advancing to the NCAA Championship in Scottsdale, Ariz., are Oklahoma, Auburn, Ole Miss, Texas and Utah. Evans Lewis of South Carolina finished as the top finisher not on an advancing team, earning an individual bid to the NCAA Championship with a score of 210 (-6), tying for fifth overall.
