Middle Tennessee Falls to FIU in Extra Innings
5/6/2022 11:17:00 PM | Baseball
MIAMI – JT Mabry finished 6-for-6 and Eston Snider hit his first collegiate home run, but Middle Tennessee baseball fell 5-4 in 11 innings to FIU Friday night.
Trailing 4-1 after six, the Blue Raiders (23-20, 12-10 C-USA) tied the game up at four by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh. Trent Seibert and James Sells combined to throw 6.1 innings and strike out nine batters in relief.
Snider pulled a solo shot to put the Blue Raiders on the board and cut the Panther lead to 3-1. Mabry's RBI double started the seventh-inning rally. Jackson Galloway reached on an error and Brett Coker brought home Galloway on an RBI single to tie it at four.
Following his first career homer, Snider hit his first career triple in the eighth but was forced out on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded in an empty Blue Raider inning. Snider would finish a double shy of the cycle after he singled in the 10th inning.
Seibert took over in the bottom of the seventh and struck out his first four batters faced. The senior left-hander worked his way around a one-out single and walk in the eighth and leadoff walks in both the ninth and 10th. He finished the night with seven strikeouts.
Mabry doubled to start the ninth and became just the second Blue Raider on record (Tim Goff at South Alabama, 1986) to record a six-hit game. The junior infielder is one of 10 batters to record a six-hit game this season in the country and the only Conference USA player to accomplish it.
The Blue Raiders couldn't hold off FIU in the 11th as a leadoff walk and consecutive singles brought home the game-clinching run.
