Middle Tennessee Soccer announces 2022 schedule

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Soccer head coach Aston Rhoden has finalized and announced the 2022 Blue Raider Soccer schedule that is set to begin on Tuesday, Aug. 9 as the Blue Raiders host the Chattanooga Mocs for an exhibition contest at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.
"The 2022 schedule will be very challenging with the inclusion of two formidable SEC opponents, some renewed in-state rivalries, and a C-USA schedule that has us playing all 10 C-USA soccer opponents," expressed head coach Aston Rhoden. "However, it will be exciting with several high level matches at home, 11 new and talented players, and new coaches on the sidelines. Despite our youth, I am confident we will be prepared for the challenge ahead and look forward to having a special season."
The Blue Raiders will host 12 home matches this fall, including a pair of exhibition matches against Chattanooga and Cumberland University. The Blue Raiders are scheduled to host non-conference games against UNF, Jacksonville, Ole Miss, Belmont, MVSU, Austin Peay, Tennessee Tech, and Vanderbilt before opening C-USA play. Middle Tennessee begins its conference slate on the road on Sunday, Sept. 18 as the Blue Raiders head to Birmingham, Alabama to take on UAB, before returning home on Thursday, Sept. 22 to open up their C-USA home slate against North Texas.

The Blue Raiders officially begin the 2022 season on the road on Thursday, Aug. 18 as they travel to Jacksonville, Florida to take on the University of North Florida Ospreys for a 6 p.m. CT kickoff. The Blue Raiders own a 1-0-0 all-time record against the Ospreys, earning a 2-0 shutout in the last meeting between the two programs during the 2018 season. Middle Tennessee will remain in Jacksonville as they play their second game of the weekend against the Jacksonville University Dolphins on Sunday, Aug. 21 at 11 p.m. CT. The Blue Raiders fell 3-0 in their first-ever meeting against the Dolphins during the 1997 season, nearly 25 years ago. Middle Tennessee opens up its 2022 home slate on Thursday, Aug. 25, hosting the Ole Miss Rebels for a 6 p.m. CT kickoff. The Rebels lead the all-time series 7-1-0 against the Blue Raiders, which includes a tough 4-2 nod for the Rebels last season in Oxford. The Blue Raiders then close out the month of August as they return to the road and head up to Music City to face the Belmont Bruins on Sunday, Aug. 28 for a 6 p.m. CT first touch. Middle Tennessee leads the all-time series against the Bruins, 10-6-1, including securing a 1-0 shutout win during the 2021 season opener.
The Blue Raiders begin the month of September with a four-game homestand, beginning Friday, Sept. 2 as Middle Tennessee Soccer hosts Mississippi Valley State Devils for a 7 p.m. CT kickoff, followed by a matchup against the Austin Peay Governors on Sunday, Aug. 4 at 5 p.m. CT, a midweek matchup against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. CT, and then close out their homestand hosting the Vanderbilt Commodores on Sunday, Sept. 11 for a 5 p.m. CT first touch. The Blue Raiders meet against the MVSU Devils for the first time ever. Middle Tennessee holds a 5-2-0 all-time lead over Austin Peay, having earned a 4-0 shutout in their last meeting during the 2019 season. Against Tennessee Tech, the Blue Raiders hold a 15-3-0 all-time advantage, but fell 3-0 in their last meeting against the Golden Eagles in 2016. Vanderbilt owns a 5-1-0 all-time record over the Blue Raiders, however, Middle Tennessee Soccer earned its first-ever win over the Commodores last season as the Blue Raiders secured an impressive 2-1 win in Nashville.

Middle Tennessee leads the Blazers 7-2-0 all-time, but the Blazers won the last meeting between the two programs 1-0 last season. The Blue Raiders will then return to Hayes Stadium as they host the North Texas Mean Green to close out September on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. CT. The Mean Green lead the Blue Raiders 17-5-2 all-time, which includes a 3-0 defeat during the last matchup between the two programs in 2019.
October opens with the Blue Raiders on their home field, hosting the WKU Hilltoppers on Sunday, Oct. 2 for a 5 p.m. CT first touch. The Hilltoppers lead the Blue Raiders 9-6-6 all-time and WKU secured a 2-1 win over MT during their last meeting. Middle Tennessee Soccer hits the road for the first time in October on Thursday, Oct. 6 as the Blue Raiders travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take on the Charlotte 49ers for a 6 p.m. CT kickoff. The Blue Raiders earned a 2-1 road win over the 49ers last season, which pushed the Blue Raiders to an all-time series lead against Charlotte, 4-3-1. The Blue Raiders will then return home on a Sunday, Oct. 9 to take on the LA Tech Bulldogs for a 1 p.m. CT matchup. LA Tech owns the all-time series lead over the Blue Raiders and in their last matchup in 2017, the Bulldogs captured a 3-2 win. Middle Tennessee Soccer will then head to the Lone Star State for a two-game road trip as they visit the UTSA Roadrunners on Thursday, Oct. 13 for a 7:05 p.m. CT kickoff, before facing the UTEP Miners on Sunday, Oct. 16 for 2 p.m. CT first touch. The Roadrunners lead the Blue Raiders 3-1-1 all-time, however the Blue Raiders earned their first-ever win in overtime against UTSA during the last matchup between the two programs in 2019. Against UTEP, the Blue Raiders lead 5-2-0 all-time, including a 2-0 shutout of the Miners last year. Middle Tennessee returns to Hayes Stadium for senior weekend as they host the FAU Owls on Sunday, Oct. 23 for a 1 p.m. CT kickoff and then close out their 2022 home slate, hosting the Rice Owls for senior day on Wednesday, Oct. 26 for a 7 p.m. CT first touch. The Blue Raiders earned a 1-0 shutout over FAU last season, giving MT the all-time series lead over the Owls 10-9-0. Against Rice, Middle Tennessee trails the Owls all-time 4-2-3, however last season the Blue Raiders fell in a tightly contested 2-1 contest during the regular season but earned a huge postseason 4-3 PK win during the 2021 C-USA Tournament to advance to the C-USA semifinals. The Blue Raiders close out the regular season on the road, heading to Miami to face the FIU Panthers on Saturday, Oct. 29 for a 6 p.m. CT matchup. Middle Tennessee holds a 16-7-1 all-time series lead over the Panthers and are currently on a five-game winning streak, which includes a 3-2 2OT win against FIU a season ago.
The 2022 C-USA Soccer Championship will be held in Charlotte, N.C. on Monday, Oct. 31 through Sunday, Nov. 6, hosted by Charlotte at Transamerica Field.
