Middle Tennessee Softball inks infielder Shelby Echols

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Softball head coach Jeff Breeden announces another addition to the 2022 signing class with the addition of Houston Baptist infielder Shelby Echols.
"Shelby, a career .400 hitter, comes to us from Houston Baptist," expressed head coach Jeff Breeden. "We look for her to make an immediate impact in our offensive output. She is bringing experience to our young middle infield and is a high school state champion from Texas. We are look forward to seeing her in action as a Blue Raider!"
Echols, a native of Pearland, Texas, joins the Blue Raiders with two years of eligibility from Houston Baptist, where she played her freshman, redshirt freshman, and sophomore seasons with the Huskies.
During her three seasons in Houston, Echols has played in and started 105 games for the Huskies, batting .385 with 134 hits, including 16 doubles, four triples, and four home runs. She has scored 71 career runs for the Huskies and batted in 29 RBIs. In the field, Echols has recorded 213 assists and 181 putouts with a .931 fielding percentage.
This past season, Echols had a career year batting a conference-leading and career-best .448 in 45 games for the Huskies. Echols connected on 69 hits with nine doubles, three triples, and one home run, while also scoring 32 runs and bringing across 14 RBIs.
Prior to joining the Huskies, Echols played under head coach Jamie Wissinger at St. Agnes Academy in Houston. She helped lead the Tigers to a state championship during her senior season, in addition to being a four-time first team all-state and all-state tournament team honoree. She was also named district MVP her sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
Echols is the Blue Raiders' sixth signee for the 2022 signing class, joining Ansley Blevins, Kamryn Carcich, Paige Connors, Julia Garcia, and Lexi Medlock.
