CHOUDRANT, La. — Middle Tennessee men's golf moved into the top three in the second round of the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate on Monday. Gavin Clements and Kevin Jegers led the way with rounds of 70 (-2) as the Blue Raiders head into the third and final round seven strokes off the lead.
Clements did not bogey a single hole Monday, notching birdies on holes 5 and 14 to move into a tie for 27th overall at 142 (-2).
Jegers enters the final day of the event in fourth place individually at 137 (-7). The Tallinn, Estonia, native carded three birdies and an eagle Monday before a double bogey on his final hole of the round derailed what could have been an even better round.
Owen Stamper moved up to a tie for 14th through two rounds with his second straight under-par round. The Scottsville, Ky., native birdied four holes en route to a 71 (-1) and holds a score of 140 (-4) heading into the third round.
Michael Barnard stayed steady with his second straight 72 (E) of the tournament Monday, finishing the round with an eagle on hole 9. He and Carter Maneth are tied for 51st individually at 144 (E).
Competing as an individual, Markus Varjun carded a 74 (+2), moving up to a tie for 86th.
Southern Miss leads the field at 554 (-22). Jegers is two strokes off the individual lead heading into the third round.
