Blue Raiders Top Bellarmine in Four Set Battle

Freshmen Trae McCutchan led the way with a career-high 14 kills on a .384 attack percentage
OXFORD, Ohio — The Middle Tennessee volleyball kicked off the Miami Ohio Invitational on Friday, September 2 at Millett Hall with a match against Bellarmine. The Blue Raiders got off to a rocky start in the first set but quickly came back with three sets of their own to win the match 3-1.
The Blue Raiders (3-1, 0-0 C-USA) came up big in a 3-1 win over the Bellarmine Knights (2-3, 0-0 WCC) Friday afternoon. The win puts Middle Tennessee on a three-match streak, winning nine of their last 12 sets played. The first set MTSU hit a .120 percentage but went on to hit .344 or higher in the next three (.344, .442, .407).
Freshmen Adri Rhoda and Trae McCutchan showed what they are capable of in Friday's win. Rhoda led the Blue Raider block with three solos and one assist on the day, doing so while only playing three of the four sets. Rhoda also had a career-best day on the attack, racking up eight kills (8-1-18) on a .389 attack percentage. McCutchan hit home a career-high 14 kills (14-4-26) home on a very efficient .384 attack percentage. Senior Kayla Henley continued to be a consistent presence for the Blue Raiders, hitting home 13 kills (13-1-24) on a match high .500 attack percentage. The senior also had eight digs and three total blocks. In sets three and four, Henley went eight of 10 with no errors.
By the Numbers
10: The Blue Raider block set up nicely as they out blocked the Knights 10 to two. The 2.5 blocks per set in the four set win is just slightly less than their 2.55 average from the previous matches.
18: Senior libero Marley Banton dug up 18 balls on the day, including 16 in the first three sets. Banton now has 59 digs through four matches played.
500: Senior Kaylee Oscarson had another great day, reaching her 500th career kill with her second kill of the match. Oscarson had nine kills (9-2-16) on a .438 attack percentage to go along with three huge blocks to quiet the Knight fans down.
