Women’s tennis wins a couple to kick off the 2022 fall slate

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee women's tennis opened their fall play on Friday, with the squad split between two tournaments.
HOOSIER CLASSIC
Three Blue Raiders traveled to Bloomington, Ind. to compete in the Hoosier Classic, with MTSU picking up two wins in singles.
Muskan Gupta tallied a win over Xavier's Abby Nugent. The first set ended in a tiebreak, which went in favor of Gupta. Gupta won the second set 6-4. Lilly-Sophie Schmidt won over Ashlee Fisk of Northern Kentucky 6-3, 7-5. Cara Szilasi lost in her respective singles match.
In doubles, Gupta and Schmidt played against Indiana's Saby Nahalani and Lauren Lemons, with the Hoosier duo taking the win. Gupta and Schmidt fell short against Purdue's Ashlie Wilson and Rut Galindo.

SAMFORD INVITATIONAL
The remaining Blue Raiders traveled to Birmingham, Ala. for the Samford Invitational. Four freshmen (Camila Barragan, Rutuja Chaphalkar, Sana Garakani and Karen Yibirin) played their first collegiate matches on Friday.
In doubles, MTSU competed against Tulane. The Green Wave took both wins.
In singles, the Blue Raiders played South Alabama, who won the singles matches. MTSU played one singles match against a player from UAB. UAB took the win in the match.
