Middle Tennessee Track and Field Start Strong in Commodore Challenge

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Blue Raiders men's and women's track and field teams wrap up their first day of The Commodore Challenge. They will be back in action tomorrow to finish out the weekend at 11:00 a.m.
Abigail Kwarteng started the women's team off with a first overall finish in the High Jump. Her best jump on the day was a 1.77. Another standout performance on the women's side was Lynnika Vance finishing third in the women's long jump. Not only did she have one top ten finish, but also placed sixth in the 200m race.
On the men's side in the first day of competition we saw strong performances from Alaba Akintola who finished first overall in the men's 200m. Akintola finished with a time of 21.19. Another first overall finish from Hillary Kimaiyo in the 1000m race with a time of 2:26.34. Lastly, on the men's side Stephen Eloji finished with a time of 34.11 in the men's 300m which was good for an overall second place finish.
What's next for the Blue Raiders?
The competition will continue tomorrow starting at 11:00 a.m. to conclude The Commodore Challenge. Look for the men's and women's track team to be back in Nashville on Jan. 20 for the Vanderbilt Invitational as well.
