Blue Raiders Fare Well in First Day of Vanderbilt Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee track and field teams completed the first day of competition up I-24 at the Vanderbilt Invitational.
Event Wins
-Esther Isa jumped 1.73m to win the women's high jump final.
Men's Top Performances
-Benjamin Onyekwelu finished second in the men's long jump final with a length of 7.7m on his 6th attempt, just shy of his personal best jump of 7.71m.
-Freshman Jackson Burns ran a 22.38s in the men's 200m for his new personal best time.
-Carmelo Cannizzaro placed sixth in the men's 1000m with a time of 2:29.82.
Women's Top Performances
-Esther Isa competed in the first event of the day for MTSU and won the women's high jump final. Isa jumped 1.73m in her first-place finish.
-Glory Nyenke finished top-five in the women's 200m final with a time of 24.67s.
-Freshman Zaila Smith finished seventh place in her first 5000m race with a time of 17:35.20.
-Lynnika Vance recorded a jump of 6.15 for a new personal best and second place finish in the women's long jump finals.
Next up
Alaba Akintola and Esther Isa will compete in Albuquerque, New Mexico next weekend Jan. 28. The rest of the team will be back in action in Birmingham, Ala. on Feb. 5 for the Jaguar Invitational.
