Women’s tennis looks forward to 2023 spring season

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The 2023 Middle Tennessee women's tennis spring campaign will be head coach Tayo Bailey-Duvall's fifth season with the Blue Raiders.
MTSU will face four teams that finished the 2021-22 season ranked: No. 23 Wake Forest, No. 26 Vanderbilt, No. 43 FIU and No. 71 Florida Gulf Coast.
The Blue Raiders will open the 21-match spring slate with a pair of matches in Fort Myers, Fla. on Jan. 13 and 14 as they take on Liberty and Florida Gulf Coast.
Coach Bailey-Duvall and company will then head home for the first of a six-match home tilt against Austin Peay on Jan. 22. The team will have another back-to-back days at home on Jan. 28 and 29 playing Georgia State and Bellarmine.
The six-match home tilt will continue into the month of February, including three straight Friday night home matches. The first will be on Feb.3 against Chattanooga, followed by Tennessee State on Feb. 10 and Murray State on Feb. 17.
MTSU will have a nine-match road swing starting on Feb. 19 and running through March 26.
During the 41-day hiatus from Murfreesboro, the team will begin close to home as they will face Lipscomb on Feb. 19. A trip up north to Indianapolis to take on Coach Bailey-Duvall's alma mater in Butler is on Feb. 24. The Blue Raiders will head back to the Volunteer State to face Vanderbilt on Feb. 26. The team will head east for a weekend road trip to North Carolina to face Elon and Wake Forest on March 3 and 5. A trip down south to the Sunshine State will see MTSU play FIU and Michigan State on March 8 and 9. Then the team will have two matches in the state of Alabama against Samford on March 17 and Alabama A&M on March 26 to end the nine-match road swing.
The Blue Raiders will return home to take on rival Western Kentucky on March 31 before heading back on the road.
The calendar turns to April and the squad heads east to ETSU on April 2. On April 15, the Blue Raiders head south to UAB. The very next day, they will face UTEP at the Adams Tennis Complex as the last regular season game of the season. Four days later, MTSU will be in postseason mode and will travel to Denton, Texas for the Conference USA Championship.
The Blue Raiders lose only two players from last season, Lee and Zani Barnard. Lee Barnard was the No. 1 singles player for MTSU, and the two were part of the No.1 and No. 2 doubles pairings as well.
Love-Star Alexis, Muskan Gupta, Noelle Mauro, Lilly-Sophie Schmidt and Eloise Swarbrick all return for the Blue Raiders from last year's squad.
The team welcomes five newcomers: Camila Barragan, Rutuja Chaphalkar, Sana Garakani, Cara Szilasi and Karen Yibirin.
