Blue Raiders Split Points Against UTEP Thursday Night
10/12/2023 10:01:00 PM | Women's Soccer
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Soccer and the UTEP Miners played to a 1-1 draw Thursday night at Dean A. Hayes Stadium.
Middle Tennessee scored in the first half, when Eleanor Gough finished a ball from Taijah Fraser and stuck the ball in the back corner of the net, giving the Blue Raiders a lead going into halftime.
In spite of outshooting the Miners 8-7 in the final 45 minutes, the Blue Raiders conceded in the 79' and would see the even result hold.
MTSU doubled UTEP in shots and shots on target, 18-9 and 8-4 respectively, while also winning the corners won stat line 8-2.
Rhoden's Roundup
"The result is not what we wanted, given how we felt we dominated this game. In critical moments are when we've been giving up goals.
"I think we did a much better job of maintaining possession of the ball and moving the ball around to create scoring chances. I do like the progress we've made. But we still need to finish opportunities," said head coach Aston Rhoden.
By the Numbers
4: Gough had a game-high four total shots. Her and Manon Lebargy's two shots on goal each were also a high Thursday.
6: Six Blue Raiders played the full 90 minutes, with Hannah Suder, Caroline Manley, Jessica Oliveras, Lauren Spaanstra, Yana Yordanova and Kaitlyn Butcher going wire-to-wire.
For Yordanova, it was her first 90-minute match. Manley meanwhile added to her existing program record in career minutes played, extending her mark to 6,942 minutes and putting herself on the doorstep of entering the 7,000 minute club.
