Softball starts the weekend with a 19-1 win over Snead State

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee softball won its fall exhibition game against Snead State Community College 19-1 Friday evening at Blue Raider Softball Field.

"I thought our pitchers played well tonight and our hitters hit it on the nose. Ava and Riley both had home runs for us. All around I think we played well," Head Coach Jeff Breeden said.

The Blue Raiders scored the first runs of the game in the second inning with a two-run home run by Ava brooks. Amaya Harris and Julia Garcia both picked up a RBI in the third inning to increase the lead to four.

Snead State threatened with two runners on base in the fourth inning, but Kamryn Carcich got her third strikeout of the game to end the inning.

Snead State plated their first run of the game in the fifth inning with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to cut the lead to three. MTSU answered putting up seven runs in the fifth inning to extend the lead to 10. Ava Brooks and Riley Gilmore both had home runs to lead the way offensively. Carcich hit a two-run double and Tepe had a RBI single.

Gilmore added two more runs in the sixth inning with a home run to make it 14-1 in favor of the Blue Raiders.

Shelby Sargent added a pair of hits as well on Friday night.

Carcich started the game in the circle throwing four scoreless innings with three strikeouts. Claire Woods took over in the fifth inning and allowed just one run in four innings.

Jesyne Espinal took over in the ninth inning and held Snead State without a run giving MTSU the 19-1 win.
