Softball fall home finale ends in tie with Walters State

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee softball tied its fall exhibition game against Walters State Community College 4-4 on Sunday afternoon at Blue Raider Softball Field.
The Blue Raiders would strike first in the second inning after singles from Riley Gilmore and Ava Tepe. Ava Brooks drove in another run in the second inning with an RBI single.
Walters State threatened to answer with a run of their own after a pair of base hits to start the third inning but would be thrown out at the plate by Shelby Sargent to keep the Senators scoreless.
Amaya Harris started things off in the bottom of the third inning with a base hit and Ansley Blevins followed, but Walters State was able to keep the Blue Raiders from adding to the lead.
After scoreless third and fourth innings, the Blue Raiders added to their lead in the fifth making it 3-0. Sargent would get an RBI on a sacrifice fly to score Lexi Medlock.
The Senators made a comeback in the last inning, scoring all four of their runs, starting with a two-run home run to cut the lead to just one. A bunt and base hit would score a pair of runs to give them a 4-3 lead in the 10th inning.
Sargent evened the game at four in the bottom of the 10th with a double down the right field line to score Savannah Behabtez.
Mary Martinez made the start in the circle for the Blue Raiders, picking up four strikeouts. Martinez went four scoreless innings before Jesyne Espinal would take over in the fifth.
Claire Woods closed out the game in the circle for MTSU.

MTSU will travel to Starkville, Miss. and play a doubleheader on October 14 against Pearl River and Mississippi State.
