Blue Raiders Concede Late Against Sam Houston in Setback

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Soccer fell in a back-and-forth match Sunday afternoon against the Sam Houston Bearkats, giving up a goal in the 78' to fall behind 3-2.
After the goal was scored by the visitors at Dean A. Hayes Stadium, and the Blue Raiders were unable to find a late equalizer in the Conference USA match.
MTSU drew first blood, scoring the earliest goal in a match all season when Eleanor Gough finished a cross from Idun Kvaale in the 9'.
Sam Houston would tie the match in the 35' and would take the lead after halftime in a penalty kick in the 58'.
After drawing a foul in the box on a corner kick in the 68', Elizabeth Slavinsky scored on a penalty kick of her own to make it a 2-2 match.
In the game's late minutes, Caroline Manley played her 6,849th career minute, surpassing Vanessa Mueggler for most minutes played in Blue Raider history. Manley—a graduate student from Arlington, Tenn.—has not missed a match or start since beginning her MTSU career in 2019, and has played each minute since Oct. 11, 2019.
Manley finished the match with 6,852 career minutes.

"I think this game was a match where we created enough chances to win, but unfortunately it came down to one moment. It shouldn't be that way, but we put ourselves into a position where one moment affected the outcome," said head coach Aston Rhoden.
