Cross Country Heads to Virginia for NCAA Championship

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee qualified three runners for the NCAA Cross Country Championship in Charlottesville, Va. on Saturday, November 18. Races will be held Saturday morning at the Mark Panorama Farms Cross Country Course.
The NCAA Division 1 Cross Country Committee announced Brian Kiptoo, Vincent Yegon and Purity Sanga all as qualifiers for the NCAA Championship. These individuals qualified based off their performances at the NCAA South Regional competition. Their performances earned them USTFCCCA All-Region honors along with Habtamu Geta.
The women's race will begin at 9:20 a.m. CT, followed by the men's race at 10:10 a.m. CT. Championship awards will be distributed immediately following the men's event.

Freshman Brian Kiptoo led the way for the men with a top-ten placement at seventh and a time of 29:05.20. Vincent Yegon was right behind Kiptoo and finished in eighth with a 29:09.80 time to give MTSU a pair of top-ten individual placements. The team as a whole placed eighth out of 23 teams with 200 total points, just one point behind the Auburn Tigers.
In the women's race, graduate senior Purity Sanga led the way with a 19:01.30 time in the 6k to shatter her previous best time. Faith Nyathi and Brooke Studnicki added top-100 finishes overall as the Blue Raiders placed 15th out of 29 teams at the NCAA South Regional.
