MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Redshirt senior Kayla Henley has signed a pro contract with club CAV Esquimo in Spain on Wednesday afternoon.
"I've known Kayla and her family back when I was a player in college and assistant coaching her club team," said MTSU Associate Head Coach Jenna Orner. "It's been exciting to watch her grow year-to-year and become a First Team All-Conference player her senior year. Her leadership, work ethic and intensity are a huge factor in helping our program succeed the way it has."
Henley has been a five-year starter for the Blue Raiders. The Little River, S.C. native became just the fourth Blue Raider in the 25-point era to reach 1,000 career kills and is ranked third in the 25-point era and eighth all-time in career kills. In the 25-point era, she is ranked fourth in double-doubles (20), sixth in digs (872) and seventh in kills per set (2.47) and in hitting percentage (.229).
In 2019, Henley was tabbed to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team and earned Second Team All-Conference honors in 2022. This season the right-side hitter achieved First Team All-Conference Team honors, Fryfest Invitational All-Tournament Team and Patriot Invite MVP while leading the team to their second ever National Invitational Volleyball Championship appearance. Henley led the team in points (416.0) and service aces (42). She recorded 20 double-digit kills in a total of 30 matches played.
"It is a full circle moment to watch the little girl from Myrtle Beach sign her first professional contract to play in Spain," said Coach Orner. "We are extremely proud of the player and person Kayla has become. I can't wait to see what more she's going to achieve with this opportunity she has earned."
