Then, in the ninth, Fairfield plated seven runs, capped off by a three-run homer. The Blue Raiders didn't go down a fight, but a Gabe Jennings two-run homer was not enough as Middle Tennessee fell 14-9.
MTSU falls to 1-2 after following its opening day win over VCU with a loss to weekend hosts Coastal Carolina on Saturday.
After Fairfield extended its early lead in the fourth with a two-run homer, the Blue Raiders cut the deficit to 3-2 with RBI from RF Eston Snider and SS Brett Coker. However, the Stags would regain their three-run advantage with solo home runs in the fifth and sixth innings.
RHP Kota Sato made his Blue Raider debut, with the transfer from Edmonds College earning the nod as starting pitcher striking out four batters in four innings. RHP James Sells entered the game out of the bullpen in the fifth and tossed the four frames while earning the decision. Freshmen RHPs Cole Torbett and Patrick Johnson would also make their first career appearances in the ninth.

Blue Raider Notes
On Sunday, the Blue Raiders didn't stray too far from their opening two starting lineups, which were the same except for the starting pitcher. C Jeremiah Boyd slid into the battery from the DH spot, with Jared Vetetoe being the DH on Sunday.
Boyd recorded a hit in all three games this weekend.
Coker and 2B JT Mabry reached base in all three games this weekend.
