Women place third, men place fifth at C-USA Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Middle Tennessee's track and field teams competed at the C-USA Championships over the weekend in Birmingham. The women placed third with 82 points, while the men placed fifth with 81.5 points.
Alaba Akintola won a pair of events himself in the 60m and the 200m races. Akintola set a new C-USA Championship record in the 200m race with a 20.59s time.
Event Wins
· Brian Rono won the men's 800m final with a time of 1:53.17.
· Esther Isa won the women's triple jump final with a mark of 13.08m.
· Alaba Akintola took first place and set a new C-USA Championship record in the 200m with a time of 20.59s. Akintola also won the men's 60m final with a time of 6.63.
Men's Top Performances
· Stephen Eloji finished second in the mens 60m final after a time of 7.99s.
· Benjamin Onyekwelu placed second in the men's long jump final with a mark of 7.43m.
Women's Top Performances
· Glory Nyenke finished second in the women's 400m finals with a personal best time of 54.00s.
· Esther isa placed second in the women's high jump final and long jump final. In the high jump she had a mark of 1.77m and in long jump a mark of 6.41m.
· Lyn'Nikka Vance placed third behind Isa in the women's long jump final with a mark of 6.09m. In the women's 60m prelim, Vance ran her fasted time of the season with a 7.52s.
