Varjun notches top-five finish at Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate

STATESBORO, Ga. — Markus Varjun capped a strong start to the spring with his best round of Georgia Southern's Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate on Monday. The Estonian redshirt freshman carded a 70 (-2) in the third round to finish fifth with a 54-hole score of 213 (-3). Luke Perkins finished the 61-man tournament in a tie for 17th, and Tate Heintzelman finished 53rd.
On a second straight sunny day with temperatures in the mid-60s, Varjun picked up six birdies and an eagle, including a five-hole stretch that saw him go 5-under on holes 7-11. He moved three spots up the leaderboard in the third round for his first career top-five finish.
Perkins finished his first collegiate tournament with a score of 220 (+4). He wrote down a 72 (E) in Monday's tournament finale, picking up four birdies along the way.
Heintzelman finished the tournament at 237 (+21) after carding an 84 (+12) Monday.
