ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The indoor season came to a conclusion at the NCAA Championships this weekend with the best track and field athletes in the country. Alaba Akintola represented Middle Tennessee in the men's 60 meter and 200-meter races, while Esther Isa competed in the women's long jump.
Akintola in the 60 meter was unable to qualify after running a time of 6.61s giving him a 12th place finish. However, the result was still a solid time, just shy of his 6.59s personal best time.
The senior from Nigeria also ran in the 200 meters where he has been great this indoor season. Last weekend, he set a C-USA new record time of 20.59s. This weekend in Albuquerque he was ruled disqualified for stepping on or over his lane.
Isa competed in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.73m and a 16th place finish on Friday, March 10.
Quote from head coach Keith Vronman
"Esther and Alaba competed against some of the best in the world and arguably the toughest NCAA championships to qualify. They have put in a lot of hard work this indoor season and we are looking forward to seeing what they can do outdoor."
What's next for the Blue Raiders?
The outdoor season will begin next weekend March 17-18 in Auburn, Alabama. With a tough outdoor schedule ahead, the Blue Raiders will look to be back in the NCAA Championships for the outdoor season.
