Blue Raiders make strides in second round of Schenkel Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. — Middle Tennessee men's golf took 10 strokes off its first-round score Saturday, moving up four spots in the Schenkel Invitational. The Blue Raiders went from seventh place to fourth with a 281 (-7) in the second round at Forest Heights Country Club. MTSU's 281 equaled the second-lowest team score of the second round.
Owen Stamper was the low man in Saturday's second round, writing down a 67 (-5) with five birdies and an eagle. He moved up 38 spots in the individual standings from a tie for 65th to a tie for 27th heading into the third round.
Barnard was under par for the second day in a row, carding a 70 (-2) Saturday. He was par or better on 17 of 18 holes on the day, including an eagle on hole 7 and a birdie on 17. He enters the final round in a tie for second, three strokes off the individual lead.
Markus Varjun recorded his second straight even-par round Saturday and sits in a tie for 21st at 144 (E). He carded five birdies for the second day in a row.
Varjun's fellow Estonian, Kevin Jegers, also notched five birdies on the way to a 72 (E) in the second round. Jegers is tied for 32nd at 146 (+2).
Gavin Clements rounds out the MTSU lineup in a tie for 57th at 151 (+7) after a second-round 75 (+3). Luke Perkins, playing as an individual, finished the day tied for 65th at 153 (+9) after a 75 (+3) in the second round. Perkins finished strong with birdies on two of his final three holes of the day.
