FAU Erases Early Blue Raider Lead, MTSU Drops Series
3/25/2023 6:10:00 PM | Baseball
Jumping ahead 2-0 after three innings, the Blue Raiders gave up six unanswered runs on Saturday afternoon. FAU clinches the three-game, Conference USA series with the decision, and MTSU falls to 11-11 and 2-3 in league play.
The Raiders drew first blood when 2B JT Mabry singled to the shortstop and brought home DJ Wright in the second inning. An inning later, Jackson Galloway poked a two-out single to left and scored Brett Coker.
The Owls tied the game in the fourth on a two-out, two-RBI double. Two innings later, an RBI double put FAU ahead for the first time of the afternoon.
RHP Jaden Hamm pitched a lengthy outing, his first start in a non-series opener this season. Across 6.1 innings, the junior struck out four batters and didn't allow a hit until two outs had been recorded in the fourth inning. However, Hamm departed with a deficit and took the loss on Saturday.
FAU added three runs in the eighth inning to cap the afternoon.
The Skipper Speaks
"We had another tough game today. FAU has a very solid lineup and Jaden Hamm gave us a chance to win. We have to come back tomorrow and compete for 9 innings and stay aggressive," said Head Coach Jerry Meyers.
By the Numbers8: After logging 18 and 17 hits respectively in its past two matchups, the Blue Raider bats logged eight base knocks on Saturday.
2: Mabry was 2-5 with an RBI and a double, while Jeremiah Boyd was 2-4 on the game.
1.2: RHP James Sells went 1.2 innings out of the bullpen and had one strikeout.
Blue Raider Notes
Mabry extended his hitting streak to a team-high 18 games. SS Brett Coker meanwhile has reached base safely in 17 straight.
Tied in hits with the Owls Saturday, the Blue Raiders haven't been outhit since March 5 against Toledo.
MTSU kept the lineup consistent from Friday night's series opener, changing nothing but the order Saturday.
