MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Head Coach Chuck Crawford has announced the 2023 Middle Tennessee volleyball schedule, which will include 28 matches for the Blue Raiders. MTSU will play 12 non-conference matches before playing eight Conference USA opponents two times each.
The Blue Raiders will host an exhibition match with Evansville before heading on the road for four tournaments. MTSU will first play in Clemson, S.C. on August 25-26, taking on Clemson and Wofford. The next week, the Blue Raiders will travel to Iowa City, Iowa on September 1-3 to play the host Iowa, South Dakota State and Kent State. On September 8 and 9, MTSU will head to Auburn, Ala. to take on Auburn, Mercer and Charleston Southern. To close out the tournament portion of the schedule, the Blue Raiders will head to Fairfax, Va. on September 15 and 16, playing Albany, Seattle and George Mason.
This season the Blue Raiders will play each conference opponent twice in back-to-back days. To start conference play, MTSU travels to New Mexico State, one of the new members of Conference USA, on September 22 and 23. MTSU will host Liberty, Sam Houston, UTEP and WKU and will be on the road to face FIU, Louisiana Tech and Jacksonville State alternating between home and away matches. Between the LA Tech and UTEP matches, the Blue Raiders will host a non-conference match at home against UNC Asheville on October 17.
MTSU will play nine home matches, 12 away matches and seven neutral matches by the end of the 2023 regular season.
"Our pre-season schedule will add the challenge we need to prepare for the returning and new members of C-USA," said Head Coach Chuck Crawford.
The Conference USA Tournament will be hosted by Liberty, a new member of the league, in Lynchburg, Va. on November 17-19. The Blue Raiders are looking for their fifth consecutive appearance in the tournament.
The Blue Raiders return everyone from last year's starting lineup except for their libero. Kayla Henley and Adri Rhoda both were named to the All-Conference USA Second Team for their performances last season. Rhoda was also tabbed to the C-USA All-Freshman team. MTSU added three freshman and two transfer to this year's squad.
"This season's schedule is certainly more competitive than we have had in many years," said Crawford. "We have added several key defensive payers to our roster for the fall and will return the rest of our starting lineup from last year except our libero."
Admission is free to all MTSU home volleyball matches.
