Mead goes eight innings in series finale win

DENTON, Texas – Middle Tennessee softball (34-17, 13-10 C-USA) won game three of today's pitcher's duel at North Texas (32-21, 16-8) 3-2 today.
The Blue Raiders jumped on the Mean Green ace Ashley Peters early with two hits in the first inning. Laura Mealer hit a double followed by a single from Amaya Harris but were stranded on-base and held scoreless in the first frame. Gretchen Mead was excellent in the circle in her final regular season start giving up just two runs in eight innings.
Shelby Echols led off with a single in the third and a stolen base for her 25th of the season to move into scoring position. Harris delivered the RBI single to give the Blue Raiders the lead and her second hit of the game. North Texas answered with a solo homerun in the fourth inning by the league leader Kailey Gamble to tie the game at one.
Once again Echols led off with a hit in the fifth inning for a triple and her fourth of the year. Mealer got the RBI on a sacrifice fly to recapture the lead. In the bottom half of the inning, North Texas answered with its own sacrifice fly to tie the game at two.
Tied heading into the seventh inning, Harris continued her dominance at the plate with a leadoff single for her fourth of the game. North Texas turned a double play to keep the game tied heading into the bottom of the seventh. A one-two-three inning for Mead sent the game into extra innings where Ansley Blevins hit a solo home run to give the Blue Raiders the 3-2 win in the series finale.
