Truden Advances to Second Round of Singles on Day Two of ITA Ohio Valley Regionals

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The Middle Tennessee women's tennis team concluded day two at the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals with three wins across four singles matches.
Graduate Alessia Truden and redshirt senior Ilaria Sposetti started the second day of action with a pair of opening round singles matches. Truden advanced to tomorrow's second round with a thrilling three-set win over East Tennessee State's Jana Rovira 6-0, 2-6, 6-4. Sposetti, matched with Miami's Catherine Denysiewicz-Slowek, fell in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.
Also in singles, Karen Yibirin featured in the Blue Raider Showdown singles bracket, defeating IU Indy's Hanan Awale in a third-set tiebreaker 2-6, 6-1, 10-4. She later advanced to the quarterfinals, winning due to an injury retirement from Indiana's Chase Boyer.
In the afternoon slate, Truden and Eloise Swarbrick and Sposetti and Rutuja Chaphalkar featured in the opening round of the doubles bracket. Truden and Swarbrick lost to Xavier's Elizabeth Pendergast and Emily Flowers 8-4, and Sposetti and Chaphalkar lost to Murray State's Valeria Chaikovskaia and Bruna Melato 8-3.
Day three of the ITA Ohio Valley Regionals will kick off tomorrow morning at 10:30 A.M., as Truden takes on Kentucky's Julia Zhu in the main singles draw.
