MTSU loses back-and-forth battle against New Mexico State

Adriana Rhoda sets career-high in kills with 26
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee volleyball fell to New Mexico State by a score of 3-2 in a five-set thriller, 3-2. With their backs against the wall for much of the match, the Blue Raiders fought valiantly until the final point. The Aggies had 10 match-point opportunities before finally sealing the victory on their 11th try. The scores of the sets were 25-23, 25-21, 25-17, 31-29 and 17-15.
Despite the loss, the Blue Raiders (13-17, 9-9) put on an impressive performance, recording a season-high 11 service aces with just eight errors. New Mexico State (17-13, 11-7) also recorded 11 service aces but had 15 serving errors. Middle Tennessee volleyball registered their highest dig total since Sept. 26, with 73 digs in the match. The Blue Raiders also recorded 11 blocks, marking the eighth time reaching double-digit blocks with seven of those performances coming in the second half of the season.
The star of the match for the Blue Raiders was Adriana Rhoda who set a new career-high in kills with 26. Rhoda has put together an exceptional season with 458 kills and 4.02 kills/set. Both of those marks rank fourth in program history for a single-season, during the 25-point era. The outside hitter has recorded 17 or more kills 16 times this season. Another student-athlete who set a career-high this afternoon was Alivia Bronner with 24 digs. Bronner, who is on a remarkable run, has recorded 17 or more digs in four of her last five matches.

The Conference USA Tournament is being played at UTEP in El Paso, Texas. The Blue Raiders will be taking on Kennesaw State in the first round with first serve set for 3:00 p.m. CT on Friday, Nov. 22.
